Hi Everyone – There’s a young lady in Rhinebeck, New York that needs your help! Have you seen the Internet article about soon-to-be bride, Emn Haddad-Friedman’s wedding conflict with Chelsea Clinton? Both young ladies have planned their dream weddings on the same day, July 31st, in the same town with church and reception locations just minutes apart. The only problem is Chelsea’s wedding has a few hundred more guest attending including government dignitaries, a much larger budget and serious security consideration. Emn and her mother, Orly, on the other hand, are handling all of the wedding arrangements by themselves. The security and secrecy necessary for a high profile wedding like the Clinton’s most likely means road closures and that Emn’s guests may need to drive an hour and a half out of their way just to get to the reception site that is really just 20 minutes away.

We at Custom Honors are hoping the Clinton-Mezvinsky’s will hear about Emn’s dilema and do something generous and honorable to make room for Emn and her soon-to-be-husband, Alex to have their special day too! Ok, so we know all our Custom Honors blog readers are full of good ideas – We thought it might be fun to use our comment section to tell us what you think the Clinton’s can do to help Emn and Alex’s wedding dreams come true – (please remember this is not a political thing just two brides trying to have a great day.) Any ideas?

Father’s Day is right around the corner, and we are finishing up on the shipping of our fathers day orders at the same time we are completing the tributes for 10 World War II Veterans that will be honored at Trinitas Golf Course, at a special dinner for them next Saturday night, June 19, 2010. As is so often the case, we were given a variety of items to use for their tributes. One gentleman provided a beautiful book with many pictures of him, the ships he served on and a 70 page biography that a high school student had written after interviewing him for the national library of congress. Another gentleman had ONE faded 3×4 picture of himself in front of a house in Alameda facing away from the camera, and a 1×1 inch picture of himself and a friend in Fiji when he had malaria. That is ALL he had to show for four years of service in the war. They will both receive a Custom Honors Tribute that will bring out a new aspect of their service. I have interviewed them both separately, and found out some new and interesting aspects of their service, which will now be brought out in their tributes. We are excited about getting these ten guys and their tributes all in the same room! It will be a great night. If you would like to join us for this evening, sponsored by Operation Military Support, you can Contact June Downum at 2097706533, for dinner in San Andreas, Ca. Cocktails at 5pm, dinner at 6 pm. $25.00 for a nice evening; and you can say thank you to our heroes yourself!! Good fun.

Ok, so… you didn’t get your pictures to us in time for Father’s day? Still want YOUR dad, uncle, or grandfather honored for

.

Father’s day? Contact us, and we will get a gift certificate to you for presentation to him on Father’s day. Then, you can work with dad openly- get to know his military, law enforcement, or firefighting story (we’ll help you with this, too) get some pictures from him, and get it all to us. This year you and dad can enjoy Father’s day twice- once on June 20,2010 and the next time when you make the presentation of his beautiful Custom Honors Art tribute to him, along with a heartfelt thank you- we guarantee it will be a special time for all of you. This is an awesome gift to be given from the whole family, too. We’ve had families that all sign the back of it with a silver pen, and dad/grandpa just loves it!

So let us know –Who is YOUR hero?

6:00 am, Today is an exciting day. I am leaving within the hour to pickup Lt Col. Lee Reynolds at the airport and driving straight to McClellan Air Force Base for the opening ceremonies honoring 20 WWII veterans, where he will be the keynote speaker. Ten veterans and their wives will arrive by limousine from Calaveras County for this special day to be honored with a memory flight on one of the Collings Foundations B-17’s or B-24 – beautifully restored bombers. Ten more veterans from the Sacramento area will be honored also. This is all made possible by the generous gift of these flights by a great guy named Jim Walden.

Jim puts in a lot of effort to support the Collings Foundations efforts to preserve these amazing old planes, and works very hard to provide an awesome day for these veterans. The day includes opening ceremonies with a full honor guard, free food, covered seating with a DJ playing 1940’s era music, and reenactors who come with old WWII vehicles, dressed in authentic WWII clothing. They are not there just for decoration; they help the Veterans throughout the day, but especially in getting up into and out of the planes. This year, two WASP’s and a Tuskegee airman are among those flying.

I will be there conducting interviews and collecting more pictures for tributes for the Calaveras County group. They will be honored at a follow-up dinner on June 19,2010 at Trinitas Golf Course. Custom Honors has been commissioned to create art tributes for each of these veterans, made possible by donations specifically for this cause to Operation Military Support – a fabulous organization, whose main purpose is supporting our current troops overseas. We think it is awesome that so many people are working to honor these awesome Americans Heroes and we are proud that Custom Honors has been chosen to be a part of this great program. I will be on hand at the dinner to make the presentations- This is a special treat for us, as most of our tributes are presented by family and friends, and we just create the tributes and ship them. Time to go- I have an appointment with Heroes, check back later for details on the day and maybe some pictures!!! Who are your heroes?

Memorial day 2010 was a busy day for us. I started the day at 9am in Dixon, California at the National VA Cemetery for a beautiful and touching ceremony honoring those that have died for our freedom, and continued on to our local memorial, lunch at the VFW hall, where I displayed some of our gold star tributes, and finally at the Vietnam memorial site in our town for the laying of the wreaths. All very heartfelt and touching ceremonies.

Memorial day is an especially important day for Custom Honors, as our desire to engage in honoring others first came to us on Memorial day 2008, when I was lamenting the crippling effects of the loss of my husband’s grandfather on his family, even 3 generations later. Anthony Todar was KIA at the Battle of the Bulge when my mother in law was only 16 months old. Without her father, and times being what they were, she had far less opportunities for happiness and success than she would have had, if he had been with her as she grew up. He was a successful business owner in Albany California in his 30’s and was exempt from the draft, but he chose to sign up to serve his Country. The family was told that he died when he went back to save someone else. Although we never knew him, he certainly is our hero.

Cub Scout Salutes at Veteran's cemetary in Dixon on Memorial Day

At the Dixon memorial, on the platform were two gold star families that we have created art tributes for. Our thoughts and our love are with both of those families and the tributes we’ve created for them keep us ever mindful of both their sons and these families’ sacrifices for our freedom.

We did enjoy the weekend, we attended the Fiesta days parade in our town, and concerts in the park. We enjoyed a barbecue with our friends (more about that later ) and we attended church on Sunday. We enjoyed with thankful hearts many of the joys of being Americans, which is available to us because of the sacrifices of All of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for us. Let us never forget.
